Faith Community Statement of Faith
1. We are followers of Jesus, the Christ, who believe in the authoritative teachings and example of Jesus Christ, the only Son of God. Our faith is in Him. (Matthew 7:28-29, Matthew 28:18-20)
2. We believe that the Bible is the living and true Word of God. It is the account of God’s faithfulness and love for all of us. It is inspired, inerrant in the original manuscripts, infallible, and the authoritative Word for all faith and life. We look to the Bible for answers to all matters of life, faith, and practice. (2 Timothy 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:20-21)
3. We believe that there is one True God, eternally self-existent, manifest in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. (Matthew 28:19, John 8:58, 1 Peter 1:2)
4. We believe that salvation consists of forgiveness of sins by belief in Jesus Christ and is a gracious gift; not a reward for any good deeds we might do. (Ephesians 2:1-9)
5. We believe in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, His virgin birth, His sinless life, His miracles, His vicarious and propitious death through His shed blood on the Cross, His bodily resurrection, His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and His personal return in glory. (Philippians 2:5-8; John 14:9; John 1:1,14; Romans 3:21-25; Hebrews 2:17; 1 John 2:2; 1 John 4:10; Colossians 2:9)
6. We believe salvation and final judgment rest solely on faith in Christ (“sola fide”), not on human works or religious rituals. For believers, Christ serves as both judge and advocate, having already paid the full penalty for their sins through His death. Therefore, while judgment is universal and certain, believers need not fear it since they are already declared righteous through faith in Christ. (Romans 3:21-25; Ephesians 2:8-9; John 5:24; Romans 8:1; Galatians 2:16; John 3:16-18)
7. We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost. The saved are raised to eternal life with God in heaven. The lost are raised to be eternally separated from God in hell. (Hebrews 9:27; 2 Thessalonians 1:8-9; Revelation 20:15; 2 Corinthians 5:6-10)
8. We believe in the deity of the Holy Spirit. He is present in the world to convict people of their need for Jesus Christ. He also indwells Christians from the moment of salvation, renewing them as they grow in Christ. He provides the Christian with power for living, understanding of spiritual truth and gifting to serve. (Acts 2:38; John 14:15-18; John 16:5-15; Titus 3:5)
9. We believe that God instituted marriage. We believe that marriage is a sacred union between one man and one woman; male and female he created them. (Genesis 1:27) God’s intent for marriage is to last for a lifetime, and therefore marriage mirrors the relationship between Christ and the church. We believe that any sexual relations outside the bonds of marriage are contrary to scripture. (Genesis 2:24; Leviticus 18:22-23; 1 Corinthians 6:9-10) Therefore, our performance of wedding ceremonies will conform to biblical imperatives.
10. We believe that families are to be valued and that children are a gift from God. We therefore believe in the protection of children and life itself, from the time of conception until the time of natural death. (Psalm 139:13-16)
11. We believe in open communion emphasizing unity and inclusivity for all believers in Jesus. (Acts 2:42-47; 1 Corinthians 10:16-17; 1 Corinthians 11:23-26; Galatians 3:28; and Matthew 26:26-28)
12. We affirm believer baptism by immersion as practiced or accepted by Faith Community Church. (Acts 2:38-39, Col. 2:11-12)
